Man, wife held for allegedly killing his brother in Chattogram

Police today arrested a man and his wife for allegedly killing his elder brother in Chattogram city's Chandgaon area.

The arrestees are Md Jahed, 26, and his wife Tasnim Binte Ohi, 26.

Chandgaon Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Aftab Uddin said they received a tip-off that a man, along with his wife, was transporting his elder brother's body in an ambulance to their village home for burial after killing him in their flat.

Acting on the information, a police team intercepted the ambulance in Chandgaon area in the early hours of today and recovered the body of Md Shahed, 35, Jahed's elder brother, from the vehicle.

The body was sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for autopsy.

OC Aftab said preliminary investigations revealed that Shahed was stabbed to death during a family dispute inside their flat in the Chandgaon Residential Area last night.

"Their family lives in Dubai, while the two brothers resided together in a flat in Chandgaon. After the murder, the couple attempted to take the body to their village home using an ambulance, but police thwarted the plan," said the OC.

He added that police are investigating to uncover more details about the motive behind the murder.

Since no other family members are present in the country, police have filed a murder case against the couple with Chandgaon Police Station, the OC added.
