Man sent to jail over rape of 12-yr-old

A man was arrested yesterday in connection with the rape of a 12-year-old in Meherpur.

The accused, Reagan, was arrested from a relative's house in the district's Gangni upazila around 3:00am, said Md Ashraf, sub-inspector of the district's detective branch of police.

On the same day, police produced him before a local court, which sent him to jail.

The incident took place on Wednesday afternoon, following which the  victim's uncle filed a case with Meherpur Police Station, Ashraf said.

According to the case statement, the accused raped the child when she was at her relative's house in the district's Sadar upazila.

The victim was rescued and admitted to a hospital and is said to be in critical condition due to heavy bleeding, said a doctor stationed there.
