Man gets jail till death for killing father in Tangail
A Tangail court today (May 31, 2022) sentenced a man to jail until death for killing his father as the latter did not give him money for drugs in Ghatail upazila in 2020.
The convict is Hasmat Ali (42), son of Samed Ali of Ramdebpur-Hengrachala village in Ghatail upazila, reports our Tangail correspondent.
Fahmida Quader, judge of Tangail District and Session Judge's court pronounced the verdict this noon, said court inspector Tanvir Ahmed.
According to the prosecution, Hasmat demanded money from his father Samed Ali on the night of October 17, 2020, for buying drugs. As he refused to pay, Hasmat started beating him up.
At one stage, he also hit his father with a spade, leaving him dead on the spot.
Hearing screams, locals caught Hasmat and handed over him to police the same night.
A day after the incident, Samed's wife Hasna Begum filed a murder case against her son.
On November 29, 2020, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Ghatail Police Station Md Ariful Hasan submitted a charge sheet to the court against the lone accused Hasmat.
Public Prosecutor S Akbar khan said Hasmat Ali had been in jail since his arrest. He was brought to court today. After the verdict, he was sent to jail.
