JnU student handed over to family after questioning

A student of Jagannath University (JnU), who was taken to the Detective Branch (DB) office for questioning after he allegedly threw a water bottle at Information Adviser Mahfuj Alam, was released hours later.
"We handed him over to his family around 6:30pm," said Talebur Rahman, deputy commissioner of DMP's media wing.
The student is Ishtiaq Hossain.
Teachers and students of JnU have been staging protests since May 14 with a four-point demand.
On the first day of the protests, Information Adviser Mahfuj Alam visited the protests in Kakrail intersection to speak with the demonstrators.
Tensions rose during the discussion, and at one point, a student hurled a water bottle at him.
Law enforcement later identified and detained the student believed to be involved in the incident.
Earlier, student protesters during their hunger strike at Kakrail intersection termed his detention "unfortunate" and maintained that they would not accept any form of "administrative repression".
JnU Oikko, a platform of students, teachers, and other stakeholders of Jagannath University, at the time issued a 2-hour ultimatum, stating that they would surround the DB office if the student was not released.
