Jewellery shop robbed in Chauddagram

A jewellery shop was robbed at Miabazar Masjid Market in Cumilla's Chauddagram upazila around 8:00pm last night.

Sub-Inspector Ruhul Amin said local businessmen detained a robber named Kawsar Ahmed, 36, of Chanpara Uttarkhan in Dhaka, and handed him over to police.

Rabindra Datta, owner of Prity Jewellers, said seven to eight armed robbers entered the shop around 8:00pm and took the salesman hostage with pistols and looted all gold ornaments from the showroom.

While leaving, robbers burst firecrackers and fired shots.

A person, Mosharraf, of another shop Bismillah Telecom was shot. He was taken to local hospital.

Local shop owners detained a member of the robbers' team when they were trying to flee.

Police said they are interrogating the detainee.

Drives are on to arrest the rest of the robber gang.
