Hallmark Chairperson Jasmine Islam denied bail in embezzlement case

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court today refused to grant bail to Hallmark Group Chairperson Jasmine Islam in a case involving the embezzlement of Tk 85.87 crore from Janata Bank through the use of fake letters of credit.
A full bench of the Appellate Division, led by Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed, also adjourned the hearing on Jasmine's bail petition for three months.
The court directed the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to submit the investigation report of the case within the same period.
The decision came after a hearing on Jasmine Islam's petition, where the court stressed the importance of reviewing the ACC's findings before proceeding further.
