Graft allegation: Ex-AL MP Sheikh Helal, wife sued

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed two separate cases against former Awami League lawmaker Sheikh Helal Uddin and his wife, Rupa Chowdhury, for illegally acquiring assets worth Tk 13.29 crore.
ACC Director General Akhtar Hossain confirmed the information today at the commission's headquarters in Segunbagicha, Dhaka.
In one case, Sheikh Helal was accused of amassing wealth amounting to Tk 6.46 crore illegally. Additionally, the ACC brought suspicious transactions worth Tk 53.54 crore in seven bank accounts under his name.
In another case, Rupa Chowdhury was accused of acquiring assets worth Tk 6.83 crore illegally.
Furthermore, the ACC filed a case against Supriyo Bhattacharya, son of former state minister Swapan Bhattacharya, for illegally acquiring assets worth Tk 63.56 lakh.
Another case was lodged against Muhammad Masudur Rahman, CEO of Bangladesh Petroleum and Lubricants and husband of former state minister Meher Afroz Chumki, for illegally acquiring assets worth Tk 2.32 crore.
