Film producer Raz denied bail in money laundering case

The High Court today rejected a bail petition of arrested film producer and actor Nazrul Islam Raz in a Tk 18 crore money laundering case.

The HC bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice AKM Zahirul Huq passed the rejection order considering that the petition was not presented before it properly.

Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik told The Daily Star that the HC refused to grant bail to Raz considering the gravity of his offence.

Police filed the case with Banani Police Station on September 29 this year against Raz for laundering Tk 18 crore which he earned through running narcotics trade.

Law enforcers arrested him (Raz) in a raid on his house in Dhaka's Banani on August 4 and he was shown arrested in the money laundering case on October 12, he added.

Lawyer AK Rashedul Huq appeared for Raz during hearing of the bail petition.
