DRU urges CJ for steps to complete Sagar-Runi murder case trial
The Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) today submitted a memorandum to Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique, requesting him to take necessary steps to quickly complete the trial proceedings of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi murder case.
DRU leaders, including its President Nazrul Islam Mithu and its General Secretary Nurul Islam Hasib, handed over the memorandum to Supreme Court Registrar General Md Golam Rabbani to place it before the chief justice. The Law Reporters Forum's (LRF) President Ashutosh Sarkar and its General Secretary Ahmed Sarwar Hossain Bhuiyan were also present there.
In the memorandum, the DRU said the then Home Minister Sahara Kharun had assured the journalist community that the killers of Sagar and Runi will be arrested within 48 hours, but there was no progress in the investigation into the incident of murders which shocked the nation.
SC Registrar General Md Golam Rabban told the journalist leaders that he will place the memorandum before the chief justice.
Sagar, news editor at private TV station Maasranga, and his wife Runi, a senior reporter at another TV channel, ATN Bangla, were killed in the wee hours of February 11, 2012 at their home in Dhaka's West Rajabazar.
