College student’s death in Gulshan: Saifa Rahman sent to jail

Saifa Rahman Mim, a co-accused with Bashundhara Group Managing Director in a case filed on charge of rape and murder of a college student in Dhaka's Gulshan, was sent to jail today.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mainul Islam passed the order after Inspector Alauddin of Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) produced her before the court.

The investigator did not file any remand prayer today. The court set tomorrow's date for hearing on the bail petition filed by the defence today.

On September 6 last year, elder sister of the deceased filed a case with a Dhaka tribunal against Bashundhara Group MD Sayem Sobhan Anvir and seven others.

On April 26, police recovered the body of the 21-year-old college student hanging from the ceiling fan of her bedroom in a Dhaka flat.

The victim's sister then filed a case with Gulshan Police Station against Anvir over abetting the death by suicide.

A Dhaka Court cleared Anvir from the case after investigation officer of the case appealed that Anvir be relieved of the charges.
