Botched C-Section: Two doctors land in jail
A Dhaka court yesterday sent two physicians to jail over an alleged "mistake" that led to the death of a newborn and endangered the life of the mother during a C-section at Central Hospital in the capital.
The doctors are Shahzadi Mustarshida Sultana and Muna Shaha.
The incident happened on June 9 when Mahbuba Akter Akhi was undergoing a C-section.
Akhi's husband Yakub Ali filed a case with Dhanmondi Police Station on Wednesday accusing the doctors and the hospital authorities of wrong treatment and falsehood.
The accused falsely promised the patient and her family before the procedure that a doctor named Sanjukta Saha was at the hospital, said the complaint.
Akhi had been under life support at LabAid Hospital since the C-section, Yakub told The Daily Star.
Other hospital employees accused in the case are Dr Mili, Jamir, Ehsan, Parvez and several unnamed individuals.
Police arrested Dr Shahzadi and Dr Muna after the case was filed and took them to a court yesterday.
The court of the Metropolitan Magistrate Afnan Sumi recorded the confession of Dr Shahzadi while the court of the Metropolitan Magistrate Farah Diba Chanda recorded the statement of Dr Muna.
