BDR carnage: Tribunal resumes recording prosecution's statements in explosives case

After six months, a Dhaka tribunal today resumed recording statements of prosecution witnesses in the explosives case related to the 2009 BDR carnage.

Today's proceedings took place at a makeshift courtroom inside the Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj.

Judge Md Ibrahim Mia of the Metropolitan Special Tribunal-2 of Dhaka started recording statements around 11:45am, Special Public Prosecutor Jewel Munshi Sumon told The Daily Star.

Till date, 283 prosecution witnesses have testified in the case.

The incident, which occurred between February 25 and 26, 2009, saw the massacre of 74 individuals, including 57 army officials, during the mutiny at the BDR headquarters in Pilkhana, Dhaka.

The case was initially filed with Lalbagh Police Station on February 28, 2009, before being transferred to New Market Police Station on April 6 of the same year.

In July 2010, Abdul Kahar Akand, a special police superintendent with the Criminal Investigation Department, submitted the charge sheet to the court.
