Attack on BNP candidate: Ex-Sirajganj MP Choyon, wife sent to jail

A Sirajgnaj court today sent former lawmaker from Sirajganj-6 constituency Choyon Islam and his wife Josna Khanam to jail in cases filed for allegedly attacking a BNP candidate in Shahzadpur upazila of Sirajganj during election campaign in 2018 national election.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Golam Rabbani passed the order after police produced them before the court this morning, said Aslam Ali, officer-in-charge Shahzadpur Police Station.
Earlier, police arrested the two from a house at Tepribari village in Shreepur upazila under Gazipur, said OC Aslam Ali.
Choyon and his wife went on hiding from Shahzadpur after falling AL government on August 5 and took shelter in relative's house, police said.
On December 18, 19, Abdul Hamid and Badsha Miah filed two separate cases with Shahzadpur Police Station accusing Choyon and his men brining allegation of the attack on the BNP candidate in 2018.
Choyon is accused in both cases, the OC said, adding that his wife was shown arrested as a suspect.
Choyon was elected as lawmaker from Awami League in 1996, 2008 and 2024 national elections.
