Arrest warrant issued against director Chayanika Chowdhury

A Dhaka court today issued an arrest warrant against renowned director Chayanika Chowdhury in a cheque dishonour case.

Judge Md Bulbul Islam of the Joint Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court-7 of Dhaka passed the order after cancelling bail of Chayanika, Abdus Salam Himel, a lawyer for the plaintiff, told The Daily Star.

The court also set June 26 for the next hearing in the case, he said.

During today's hearing, Chayanika was not present at the courtroom, so her lawyer filed a petition, seeking time in the case.

The court rejected the time petition and cancelled her bail.

On May 14, 2013, producer Rashedul Islam Riaz filed the case with the court under the Negotiable Instruments Act, accusing Chayanika.

On February 10, 2015, the court framed charges against her.
