Arrest warrant issued against BNP’s Rizvi, 3 others for ‘attacking police’
A Dhaka tribunal today issued arrest warrants against four people, including BNP's Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed, in two cases filed over attacking policemen and vandalising vehicles in December 2019.
After accepting the charges against eight people, Judge KM Emrul Kayesh of Dhaka Metropolitan Special Tribunal-1 issued the arrest warrant against the four -- Rizvi, Md Shahin, Delwar Hossain and Md Rana.
The tribunal directed officer-in-charge of Hatirjheel Police Station to submit by May 19 the reports on implementation of the arrest warrants issued against them.
Four other accused, now on bail, are Sheikh Amir Hossain, Ashraf Hossain, Hanif Raihan and Abdur Rahim.
On August 25 last year, a sub-Inspector of Hatirjheel Police Station, also the investigation officer of the cases, submitted charge sheets against Rizvi and the seven others.
According to the prosecution, it was alleged that a group of BNP leaders and activists led by Rizvi brought out a rally in protest against the bail rejection order of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in Dhaka's Hatirjheel area on December 13, 2019.
They also vandalised vehicles and attacked policemen, leaving some of them injured.
Later, two separate cases were filed under the Special Powers and Explosive Substances Acts.
