ACC quizzes immigration and passport dept director over corruption allegations
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) today quizzed the director of Department of Immigration and Passports (DIP) Abu Sayeed on corruption allegations for about two hours.
The anti-graft watchdog also summoned DIP's deputy director Raj Ahmad for quizzing but he did not show up.
There are allegations against the DIP officials of taking bribe and amassing wealth beyond known sources of income.
Contacted, Sayeed said he is victim of "professional vendetta".
"A quarter in DIP is spreading propaganda against me," he said.
This is the second time ACC is enquiring into Sayeed's illegal wealth and corruption allegations.
In 2017, the ACC gave him a clean chit after enquiry, he said.
Wishing anonymity, an ACC official said Sayeed denied the allegations against him. "We're going through his wealth statement," he added.
Meanwhile, the ACC has asked former deputy inspector general of Criminal Investigation Department Nazrul Islam to appear before it on September 19 for quizzing over amassing wealth beyond the known source of income.
Sources said the enquiry was initiated in 2002-03. But he filed a writ against the summon.
The High Court recently vacated the writ petition.
"Now we have re-launched the enquiry and asked him to appear," he said.
