7 held for mugging 2 Indian students in Dhaka
Detectives arrested seven alleged robbers on charge of mugging two Indian students, studying in a private medical college in Dhaka, a week ago.
A team of detectives arrested them from Dhaka and Keraniganj area yesterday, Mahbub Alam, joint commissioner (DB-South) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, told a press briefing at DMP media centre today.
They are: Fakrul Islam Faku, Almas, Samun, Abdullah Al Yousuf Ahmed Ashique, Shaheen, Babu and Shafiqul Islam.
DB officials recovered a looted laptop, 43,950 Indian rupees and some mobile phones from their possession.
On January 23, muggers in a car intercepted the two students of Dr Sirajul Islam Medical College when they went out of their hostel at Moghbazar hostel.
They were supposed to travel to India.
One of the student filed a case with Ramna Police Station saying that four masked muggers mugged them, branding sharp weapons.
"The arrestees in primary interrogation admitted mugging the two Indian students," Mahbub told the briefing.
DB officials said the car belongs to a doctor, which was rented by a member of the gang. Detectives, however, said they did not found the doctor's involvement with the gang.
