2 robbers get 20 years for killing Ansar in Dhaka
A Dhaka tribunal today sentenced two robbers to 20 years' rigorous imprisonment in a case filed over killing an Ansar official in the city's Uttarkhan in September, 2008.
Ansar's Assistant Adjutant Nasir Ullah was killed by robbers at his home in the Mausayed area of Uttar Khan on September 27, 2008.
The convicts are Arab Ali Howlader and Rahman Khan.
Judge Abu Zafar Md Kamruzzaman of the Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 of Dhaka handed down the sentence in presence of the convicts.
The tribunal acquitted 10 others as their involvement with killing was not proven. They are Mizan Mollah, Nurul Islam, Golam Mostafa, Fazlul Karim, Rezaul Bepari, Jalal Khan, Sahi Sardar, Yamin Bepari, Abdus Salam and Liton Howlader.
Earlier, the prosecution and the defence completed their arguments and the tribunal recorded statements of 23 prosecution witnesses, including the complainant of the case.
According to the prosecution, it was alleged that a group of robbers led by Arab and Rahman broke open the door of the victim, shot him dead and snatched away valuables worth Tk 20 lakh from his home at 2:30am on September 7, 2008.
Following the incident, the victim's brother filed a case with Uttarkhan Police Station in this regard.
After an investigation, police pressed charges against 12 robbers for their alleged involvement with committing the offences.
