2 arrested for trying to smuggle Saudi Riyal from Dhaka airport
Two outbound passengers were arrested this morning from Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport for allegedly trying to smuggle six lakh Saudi Riyal.
The arrestees are Jewel (36) and Golam Rabbani (46), said Md Ziaul Huq, additional superintendent of Airport Armed Police Battalion (APBn).
They were trying to go to Bahrain on a flight of Gulf Air with the money worth Tk 1.4 crore in their luggage, he said.
APBn intercepted them at the airport's holding lounge based on a tip off.
During primary interrogation, they admitted to smuggling currency to Dubai by travelling there regularly. They use the smuggled money to buy gold, the official added.
