Truck runs over 5-year-old in Tangail

A five-year-old boy was killed after being run over by a truck in Tangail's Sakhipur upazila this afternoon.

The victim, Sowad Al Safwan, was the son of Md Masum of Garh Gobindapur area of the upazila.

The incident occurred around 1:00pm in front of Life Care Clinic on the Sakhipur-Gorai road, said Abul Kalam, officer-in-charge of Sakhipur Police Station.

According to police and family members, Safwan and his mother had just got off a battery-run auto-rickshaw. While his mother was paying the fare, Safwan stepped onto the road and died on the spot after a truck hit him.

OC Abul Kalam added that police seized the truck but the driver and his helper managed to flee.
