Truck driver killed as bailey bridge collapses in Bandarban

A trucker was killed as a rice-laden truck fell into a stream after a bailey bridge on the Paikhyong stream collapsed in Bandarban's Rowangchhari upazila this noon.

The victim was identified as Abdul Gafur (55), of Puranghor area of Chattogram's Satkania upazila, said Md Abdul Mannan, officer-in-charge of Rowangchhari Police Station.

Abdul Gafur died on the spot when the truck fell into Paikhyong stream after the bridge collapsed, said the OC.

The police official said the accident took place around 2pm when the Ruma-bound rice-laden truck was crossing the bridge.

Communication between Bandarban and Ruma upazila snapped following the incident, the OC told our Bandarban correspondent.
