A teenage boy died after being crushed between two buses in Dhaka's Moghbazar area this afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Rakib, 14, who used to sell facemasks on the buses and streets.

The boy was crushed between two buses as the drivers of three buses of Gazipur-bound Ajmeri Paribahan were recklessly driving to compete with each other around 5:00 pm, Harun-or-Rashid, an eyewitness, said.

With critical injuries, the boy was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors on duty declared him dead around 5:30 pm, said Harun, who also took the boy to the hospital.

Police seized the buses but the drivers fled the scene, Monirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Ramna Police Station, told The Daily Star.

"We came to know that the boy was trapped between the buses as the vehicles rushed on after police opened the traffic signal," he said.

Police will look into the CCTV camera footage to know what actually happened, he said.

The body was sent to DMC morgue for autopsy, said Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH Police Outpost.
