A massive fire that broke out at a tissue manufacturing factory of Meghna Group of Industries in Narayanganj's Sonargaon upazila early today could not be doused completely after 16 hours.

Meanwhile, the two top floors of the five storey steel structured building has collapsed and the building is also tilted from one side, said Abdul Mannan, deputy assistant director of fire service and civil defence in Narayanganj.

At 9:00pm, he said, it may be completely doused by early Tuesday morning.

"The building has become too risky for firefighters, however we are trying to put out the fire completely by using TTL. As there were stored a lot of tissue-making raw materials and papers in the building which are easily flammable, it takes time to put out the fire completely," the fire official added.

Earlier, 12 fire engines of six fire stations managed to bring the fire under control after four hours around 9:00am, said another official of fire service.

No casualties have been reported so far.

The four-storey building of Meghna pulp and paper mills located at Jhauchar area under Pirojpur UP, was used as workshop and warehouse. A lot of raw materials were stored in the building.

The building caught fire around 5:00am in the morning. Workers initially tried to put out the fire with the help of their own firefighting team but failed as the fire spread quickly, said a worker of the factory.

Later, they informed the fire service.
