Auto-rickshaw driver electrocuted, wife injured in Netrokona

A battery-run auto-rickshaw driver died from electrocution and his wife was injured while trying to save him in Khaliajuri upazila of Netrokona last evening.
The deceased was identified as Helal Mia, 35.
His wife, China Akter, 29, is currently undergoing treatment at Khaliajuri Upazila Health Complex.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Khaliajuri Police Station Mokbul Hossain said Helal put his battery-powered auto-rickshaw on charge outside his house.
During a power outage, Helal went to disconnect the charger of his battery-powered auto-rickshaw with his mouth. Right that moment, power was suddenly restored, and he was electrocuted.
Seeing her husband in distress, China rushed to his aid and was also electrocuted in the process.
Locals rescued the couple and took them to the upazila health complex, where the on-duty doctor declared Helal dead.
"Police were sent to the hospital upon receiving the report. Legal procedures are underway," said the OC.
