4 killed as microbus, truck collide in Dinajpur

At least four people were killed and four others injured in a head-on collision between a microbus and a truck in Dinajpur's Birganj upazila this morning.

The deceased are microbus driver Manik Hossain, 42, from Road Colony; and Delwar Hossain, 45, from Hazipara in Thakurgaon municipality; Imrul Hasan, 43, from Boyaldhar village in Baliadangi upazila; and Julfikar Ali, 45, of Malivita village in Ranishankoil upazila of Thakurgaon.

Among the injured, Mizanur Rahman, 48, and Al Mamun, 40, and Abdul Mannan, 37, are currently undergoing treatment at Thakurgaon 250-bed General Hospital, while Nahid, 32, was discharged after giving first aid, said Dr Rokibul Alam, a resident medical officer at the hospital.

Quoting locals, Md Omar Faruq, officer-in-charge of Dashmile Highway Police Station, said the Rangpur-bound microbus collided head-on with a goods-laden truck on Thakurgaon-Dinajpur highway at Prannagar Bengpukur village around 6:30am, leaving Manik and Delwar dead on the spot.

Locals rushed the injured to the hospital, where doctors declared Imrul and Julfikar dead.

According to victims and family members, all the victims, except Abdul Mannan, were the employees of the Thakurgaon district and upazila accounts offices and were on their way to Rangpur to attend a departmental training session.
