3 pedestrians killed in Gazipur road accident

Three pedestrians were killed early today when a pickup van lost its control and hit them on a walkway at the MC Bazar area on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway at Sreepur of Gazipur.

The accident happened around 2 am today, confirmed Kamal Hossain, officer-in-charge of Mawna Highway Police Station, reports our Gazipur correspondent.

"The deceased were identified as Abdul Majid Johnny (32) of Alamdanga upazila of Chuadanga, Tofazzal Hossain (35) of Gafargaon upazila of Mymensingh and Ibrahim Hossain (32) of Fatehpur village in Khulna," said the OC.

"The deceased were street vendors. They were returning from a local waz mahfil when the accident happened. Locals took them to Sreepur Upazila Health Complex where they died," added the police official.

"The pickup van was seized but the driver escaped. As there was no complaint, the bodies were handed over to the deceased's relatives without an autopsy," he said.
