3 killed in truck accidents in Dinajpur, Rangpur
Three people were killed in separate truck accidents in Rangpur and Dinajpur today (August 12, 2022).
Of them, two were killed in Birol and Bechaganj upazilas of Dinajpur while one died in Pirganj upazila of Rangpur, reports our Dinajpur correspondent.
In Dinajpur' Birol upazila, Kawsar Ahmed (12), was killed after a truck hit a motorcycle at Shankarpur village around 11am.
The accident happened when Kawsar along with his father Mohammad Alam was going towards Balapukur village on the motorcycle soon from their house, said Fakhul Islam, officer-in-charge of Birol Police Station.
Police seized the truck but its driver managed to flee the scene, the OC added.
In Dinajpur's Bechaganj upazila, another 12-year-old, Partha Kumar Das, son of Mohammad Alam, died after a truck of a courier service hit a motorcycle while he along with a relative was going to visit a local temple in Daspara area around 11:30am, said Motiar Rahman, inspector (investigation) of Bechaganj Police Station.
Partha came to Bochaganj with his parents from Tanore in Rajshahi to attend a family event, said the police official.
Police seized the truck and detained its driver, said the inspector, adding that the driver was smoking cannabis while driving the truck. His licence was also expired.
In Rangpur, a woman was killed after a sand-laden truck hit her from behind while she was walking beside a road at Jafarpara village in Pirganj upazila this morning.
The deceased was identified as Nurjahan Begum, 40, wife of Saiful Mia of Jafarpara village, said Ratan Sarma, station officer of the Fire Service and Civil Defence of Pirganj upazila of Rangpur.
Angry locals seized the truck and set it on fire. Later, the fire service personnel rushed to the spot and extinguished the blaze, the official added.
