11-yr-old drowns in Jamalpur

An 11-year-old boy drowned while swimming in the Jhinai river in Jamalpur's Sarishabari upazila today.

The deceased is Hasan, son of Jahangir Alam, a resident of the Phulbaria area.

The incident occurred this afternoon noon in the same area.

According to family members, Hasan went to swim in the river with some of his friends and at one point, he went underwater and did not resurface.

Locals later rescued him and took him to Sarishabari Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead.

Sarishabari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Chaad Mia said on information police went and recovered the body from the hospital.

The body was later handed over to the family without an autopsy.
