Attack on poet Shamsur Rahman condemned
More political parties, organisations and individuals yesterday condemned the attack on poet Shamsur Rahman, reports BSS.
State Minister for Youth, Sports and Cultural Affairs Obaidul Quader bitterly condemned the heinous attack by unholy communal forces.
The state minister yesterday visited the poet at his residence and assured him that the non-communal forces imbibed with the spirit of Liberation War were beside him.
The Language Activist and Political Prisoner Council condemned the attack. In a statement president and general secretary of the council Gaziul Haque and Mustafa Sarwar urged the pro-liberation forces to unite for resisting the conspirators who planned the killing of intellectuals on December 14, 1971.
General secretary of National Awami Party Bhasani (Mushtaq-Rouf) Abdur Rouf Ahmed and other leaders in a joint statement expressed deep concern at the attempt to kill Shamsur Rahman.
The statement was signed, among others, by Mushtaq Ahmed, Harun-ur-Rashid, M Solaiman, Syed Anwar Hossain, Nazrul Islam and Babu Subas Chandra Roy.
President of Jatiya Janata Party Musa Asad in a statement condemned the attack and demanded punishment of those involved.
Bangladesh Muktijoddah Sangsad Central Command Council, Muktijoddah Youth Command, Muktijoddah Women Command, Muktijoddah Teachers Command and Muktijoddah Cultural Command and other fellow Muktijoddah commands in a joint statement called upon all patriotic citizens to remain alert and root out all those involved in the attack.
President of Dhaka city unit of Bangladesh Unani Medical Association Hakim Shah Ilham Ullah Chishti and general secretary Hakim Ferdous Wahid severely condemned the attack on the poet. In a joint statement they said in Islam there was no place for fanaticism. Therefore, those who were involved in terrorist acts and in conspiracies to kill intellectuals in the name of religion should be punished.
President of Colonel Taher Parishad Kamal Lohani and general secretary Mushtaq Hossain in a joint statement condemned the attack and called upon the government to find out the attackers through proper investigation and take effective measures to stop recurrence of such attacks.
Bangladesh Youth Union, Progressive Women's Movement, Rabindra Adhayan Chakra in separate statements condemned the attack and demanded exemplary punishment of those involved.
