ARANNE bashonto
Aranya has successfully revived natural dyes in Bangladesh from the brink of extinction, developing a palette of 30 ecologically friendly, non-pollutant colours through decades of intensive research and development. Natural dyes, used singly or as compound colours, offer an unlimited range of shades and variations. Production techniques have been refined to maximise cost effectiveness, commercial viability, and colour fastness to compete successfully in the mainstream market both in Bangladesh and abroad. Aranya is a successful fair trade organisation and a member of WFTO; it is also a member of the World Crafts Council. With its outstanding designs and colours, Aranya has created a brand that is instantly recognisable. Apart from block prints, Aranya uses a range of Asian craft techniques like tie n' dye, folded shading and Shibori to name a few. Hand-dyed yarn in silk, cotton and other blends are woven and embroidered in traditional saris, ready-wear fabrics and accessories.
To pay homage to Pohela Boisakh and the Bangladeshi spring and summer season, Aranya has launched a colourful "Bashanto" collection. Natural dyes are used in vivid, earthy, trademark Aranya shades like red, yellow, brown, olive, blue and green. Aranya features both traditional outfits as well as contemporary ones to cater to the tastes of all kinds of customers. Saris, shalwar kameez sets, tops, scarves, shawls, bags and jewellery are available in Aranya's signature designs for the ladies. For the men, there are panjabis, shirts and scarves featuring prints, weaves and embroidery. Childrens' wear is also available in these patterns and colours.
Besides featuring this collection in their Banani flagship store, Aranya is also in the midst of hosting an exhibition at Bengal Shilpalay, Road 16, Dhanmondi from 5-13 April. The items in the exhibition are for sale and their products are available in every price range. You know you can never go wrong with one of Aranya's signature pieces, as there is just an effortless elegance that exudes from their prints and colours. If you plan to wear silver or bronze jewellery, for example, you know an Aranya sari will be the perfect display for that antique necklace. So if you want your Boishakhi look this year to be classy, sophisticated and with an earthy vibe, head to Aranya and see all your wishes fulfilled.
