AL leader expelled on charge of crimes
A local Awami League leader in Patuakhali district has been expelled from the party for his alleged involvement in criminal activities.
The expelled leader is Iqbal Mahmud Liton, organising secretary of Dashmina upazila AL.
The decision was taken at a meeting of district unit AL at the party office on Tuesday night.
Khan Mosharraf Hossain, secretary of the district unit, then sent a letter to central committee for approval over the issue.
On March 27, local government and cooperative ministry suspended Liton from the post of Dashmina union parishad chairman on charge of grabbing a house of a retired army man in the upazila town.
The speakers at the meeting said Liton carried out a number of criminal activities including terrorism and tender scam since the party came to power in 2009.
On March 14 this year, Liton assaulted a few senior party leaders, including Goutam Roy, joint secretary of upazila AL, at a meeting at Dashmina High School auditorium.
The decision to expel Liton from the party was taken following a complaint filed by Goutam over the issue, said the party's district secretary.

Yesterday, police produce him before the Chief Judicial Magistrate's court, seeking a five-day remand in the case but it granted three days.
