ADP zooms up 26pc
The National Economic Council yesterday approved a Tk 65,870 crore budget for fiscal 2013-14's annual development programme, which is 26 percent higher than in the current fiscal year.
“If the approved ADP is implemented properly the economy will get a massive boost,” AK Khandker, planning minister, said at a press briefing.
The transport sector got Tk 15,363 crore, the biggest share of the ADP pie, which is 89 percent higher than the current fiscal year's allocation, due to the Padma Bridge project.
The second highest allocation -- Tk 9,053 crore -- went to the power sector, a 14 percent rise year-on-year.
The education sector got Tk 8,766 crore, an 18 percent jump, while the health sector's allocation increased by only 2 percent to Tk 4,239 crore. The agricultural sector's allocation stood at Tk 3,721 crore, a 26 percent rise over the current fiscal year.
The total number of projects in the next ADP comes to 1,046, which includes 50 fresh projects. The final number of projects may go much higher.
In the new ADP, around 60 percent of the amount will come from government funds.
The NEC also included in the ADP the development projects implemented by the autonomous bodies with their own funds. The total outlay in 130 such development projects will be Tk 8,114 crore.
