Accept polls results: CEC

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmed Saturday afternoon urged all to accept city corporation election results whatever they would be.

"Elections in four city corporations have ended peacefully except some stray incidents. Now the counting is underway," the CEC said. "I request all of you (candidates) to accept the results."

Rakibuddin was speaking at a press briefing at the Election Commission Secretariat hours into the ending of the voting in Rajshahi, Khulna, Barisal and Sylhet city corporations.

Stating that holding any elections are a challenge for the EC, he said the commission was very careful to hold the voting of the city corporations and they did it perfectly.

"We are not fully satisfied as we have a major event to hold national elections. We will be happy after completing the national election peacefully," he added.

Earlier in the day, the voting took place simultaneously in the four city corporations for eight hours from 8:00am without any major violence.
