ACC sues three customs officials in Ctg
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Chittagong on Thursday night lodged a case against three customs officers for helping an importing organisation dodge revenue of about Tk 87 lakh.
The three customs officers are former joint-commissioner of Chittagong Customs Jewel Ahmed, its revenue officer Mohammad Mahidul Islam and assistant revenue officer HM Haidar.
Khalilur Rahman Sikdar, deputy assistant director of ACC, Chittagong office, filed the case at about 10:30pm Thursday.
In the case, the ACC alleged that the three officers helped an importing agency to escape revenue of about Tk 87 lakh by providing the company with release letter for undeclared goods.
ACC said Popular Computer in Dhaka submitted bill of entry to Chittagong Customs for importing 675 pieces of computer from China in April 2012.
On May 2 last year the three accused customs officers gave final letter of release to the company.
But on secret information, Detective Branch of the customs discovered that the company imported only 98 pieces of computers and other high-tax electronic instruments instead of the computers.
The customs authority then began investigation into the matter and found the three officials guilty.
