9 killed in road crashes
Nine people were killed and at least 91 others injured in road crashes in Dinajpur, Tangail, Kushtia, and Jessore yesterday.
Our Dinajpur correspondent reports, at least three persons were killed and around 25 others were injured as a bus collided head-on with a truck on Joypurhat-Bogra highway at Paglamazar in Akkelpur upazila yesterday afternoon.
One of the deceased was Tariqul Islam, helper of the passenger bus.
The injured were rushed to Akkelpur Upazila Health Complex.
Our Tangail correspondent reports, two unidentified people were killed on the spot and 35 others injured when a Dhaka-bound passenger bus from Dhanbari fell into a ditch beside Tangail-Mymensingh road in Gangail area of Madhupur upazila yesterday afternoon.
The accident occurred when the bus driver lost his control over the steering and hit a roadside tree, said Madhupur police.
Of the injured, 20 were taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
Meanwhile, an unidentified old woman travelling in a CNG-run auto-rickshaw was killed and a child injured when the vehicle skidded off Nagarpur-Aricha road in Dhalapara area of Nagarpur upazila yesterday afternoon.
The accident occurred when the driver lost his control over the steering to save the child who was crossing the road, said Nagarpur police.
Our Kushtia correspondent reports, two buses collided head-on on Rajbari-Khulna highway at Khankhanapur in sadar upazila yesterday afternoon, killing the vehicles' drivers, and injuring at least 30 others.
The dead were Abdul Khalil, 35, and Mohon Sheikh.
The injured were admitted to Rajbari and Faridpur hospitals.
Our Benapole correspondent reports, a cow trader died as a cow-laden truck hit him while he was crossing Benapole-Putkhali road in Sikri Bottala area in Benapole of Jessore early yesterday.
The deceased was Sagor Hossain, 40, son of Hasem Ali of college para area in Benapole.
