40 BNP activists hurt in attack
Over 40 activists of BNP and its associated bodies sustained injuries after they were attacked allegedly by Awami League men in different points in Kalapara upazila of Patuakhali yesterday.
Among the injured, three have been admitted to Barisal Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital in a critical condition.
Khondaker Nasir Uddin, organising secretary for Kalapara upazila unit BNP, said attackers vandalised at least eight motorbikes and took away about 50 mobile phones from the party activists.
Nasir Uddin said the activists were attacked on their way to and back from an iftar party organised at Khepupara Model High School by Kalapara upazila unit of BNP.
However, SM Rakibul Ahsan, general secretary of Kalapara upazila unit Awami League, denied the allegation.
Officer-in-charge of Kalapara Police Station said the situation is now under control.
