Hundreds of passengers remained stuck for hours as four covered vans overturned in separate points of the Dhaka-Chittagong highway in four upazilas of Comilla Friday, creating a 30-kilometre tailback.
A Dhaka-bound covered van from Chittagong overturned in Raipur upazila around 3:30am, halting traffic on the busy highway, said Muhammad Hasan, a sergeant of Elliotganj Highway Police.
Situation worsened when three more covered vans flipped over on roads in Sadar, Daulatpur and Chandina upazilas simultaneously, reports our Daudkandi correspondent.
Though police wreckers removed the vehicles from roads hours after the accidents, hundreds of vehicles including bus and trucks already queued up by the time from Comilla cantonment area to Gouripur in Daudkandi upazila till 1:30pm, Hasan said.
