2 robbers beaten dead in Laxmipur
Two robbers were beaten to death by a mob after they were hit by bullets during a gunfight with police in Raipur upazila of Laxmipur early Thursday.
At least 15 people including an assistant sub-inspector of Raipur Police Station were also injured during the incident, said Manirul Islam Majumder, officer-in-charge (OC) of the police station.
A group of 15 to 20 armed robbers stormed into the houses of Shariful Islam and his neighbour Mizanur Rahman at Kajirchar village around 2:00am, , reports our Noakhali correspondent quoting the OC.
When Shariful's elder brother called police and their relatives over mobile phone seeking help, law enforcers and villagers rushed to the spot and encircled the houses.
Sensing their presence, the robbers fired gunshots targeting the law enforcers prompting them to fire back, the OC went on.
The villagers managed to catch two of the robbers, who were hit by bullets during the gunfight, and gave them a good beating, leaving the duo dead on the spot, he added.
Identities of the deceased could not be known immediately
Police found a single-barrel gun and two cartridges from the spot.
The bodies were sent to Laxmipur Sadar Hospital for autopsy while the injured were rushed to local upazila health complex.
