2 hurt in vandalism at Suhrawardi Hospital
Two staff of Shaheed Suhrawardi Hospital were injured as students of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University attacked and vandalised the hospital in the capital on Saturday.
Witnesses said three students of the agricultural university went to the canteen of Suhrawardi Hospital in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area around 8:15am.
They had a brawl with the canteen staff for delay in serving breakfast and called their fellows over telephone.
At least 40 students, equipped with sticks and rods, attacked the hospital.
They vandalised chairs and tables of the canteen, glass-doors of the hospital and doctors’ room inside the boundary of the hospital, witnesses said.
The manager and assistant manager of the canteen sustained injuries during the attack. They were undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Mahin Patowari, a canteen staff, claimed that the attackers also looted 50,000 from the cash.
Maruf Ahmed, an inspector of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station, confirmed that students of the agricultural university made the attack.
“We will identify the culprits from the footage of the close circuit camera installed inside the canteen,” the police official said.
On the other hand denying the allegation against the students, Mufazzal Hossain, proctor of the agricultural university, said students of a nearby college have carried out the vandalism.
Case filed:
Ashraful Islam, manager of the canteen, filed a case with the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station against at least 25 unnamed students of the university, inspector Maruf told The Daily Star.
