Twelve local BNP leaders and activists, who secured bail from the High Court earlier, were freed from the district jail on Tuesday evening.
As the BNP men came out of the jail, leaders and activists of the party and its front organisations, including city unit BNP president Nazrul Islam Manju, received them with bouquets at the jail gate.
The freed leaders are Mejbahuddin Mizu, Mahmudul Hasan Munna, Munzur Morshed, Sujan Ahmed, Munshi Rajib, Foyzul Islam Banu, Khan Saiful Islam, M. Hasib, M Akram, Shafiqul Islam Khan, Abdullah Al Mamun and Khairul Islam Raju.
Police filed three separate cases -- two with Sadar police station and one with Sonadanga police station -- against the BNP leaders and activists on charges of torching and damaging vehicles and attacking cops during hartal violence earlier.
