Israel's attack on Gaza protested

Dhaka University (DU) students yesterday at the TSC on the campus protested Israel's military attacks on Gaza in the last seven days which reportedly killed at least 200 people.
The protestors also urged all human rights organisations to come forward and put pressure on Israel to call off the attack. DU vice-chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique also attended the programme organised by Slogan 71, a cultural organisation.
3 held with smuggled gold in Dhaka

Railway police arrested three passengers of Turna Nishita Express and seized 50 gold bars, weighing 6kg, worth around Tk 1.53 crore, from them in the capital's Kamalapur Railway Station yesterday.
On a tip-off, police recovered 34 bars from the socks of Suman and Bilu.
Another police team seized 16 gold bars from Md Selim. The gold bars were smuggled into Bangladesh through Chittagong airport several days ago, said police.
Unclogging drains, canals to reduce waterlogging urged

To reduce waterlogging during monsoon, all drainage canals and pipe drains in the capital should be unclogged by May every year, suggested diploma engineers yesterday.
The canals in the eastern side of the city and Dhaka-Narayanganj-Demra (DND) embankment area should be freed from encroachment, they told a seminar of the Institute of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh in the capital. MA Gofran, chairman of IDEB Study and Research Cell; and Dr Hasan Mahmud, MP, also spoke.

Kazi Imtiaz new envoy to Australia

The government has decided to appoint Kazi Imtiaz Hossain, now Bangladesh ambassador to Thailand, as the new High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Australia, said a press release.

Prof Bijoy joins NSU as consultant

Prof Bijoy K Sahoo joined North South University on July 12 as a full-time consultant for Educational Quality.
He will assist in research, planning, curriculum development, learning assessment, and accreditation of the university. A Rotary scholar from India, he was the Business School Dean, North Carolina Central University.
