Establish good governance to reduce corruption
Says ACC chairman
Corruption will be reduced if good governance can be established in society, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Ghulam Rahman said yesterday.
He also called on all to keep corruption at bay for economic development and raise awareness to resist corruption.
The ACC chairman was speaking at a view exchange meeting on anti-corruption drive with the district level officials at the Deputy Commissioner's conference room at Feni yesterday.
He said, "Corruption has taken roots in our society. Corruption increased manifold in the higher echelons of society. Many people thought they were above the law. So, a drive was essential. Now they will be proved wrong."
He also called for reviewing the newspaper reports regarding allegations of corruption and taking action against the persons responsible for corruption after proper investigations.
He urged the journalists to disseminate news objectively.
Feni Police Superintendent Mallick Fakhrul Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner Mominur Rashid Amin, Feni Municipality Mayor Nurul Absar, Civil Surgeon Dr Golam Rahman, Executive Engineer of the Public Housing Department Gias Uddin Haider and Feni Press Club President Abu Taher also spoke at the meeting presided over by Acting Deputy Commissioner of Feni Md Khaled Abu Naser.
ACC officials Mozammel Hossain Khan and Shafiqur Rahman were also present.
