StanChart's new head office aims better service

The new head office of Standard Chartered Bank Bangladesh located on Gulshan Avenue in Dhaka was opened yesterday with a view to providing more comfortable services to its customers.
The bank earlier conducted its Bangladesh operation from the Motijheel office.
Dr Salehuddin Ahmed, governor of Bangladesh Bank, and Lord Adair Turner, non-executive director of Standard Chartered PLC, jointly inaugurated the bank's country office in the morning.
Later in the evening, the bank organised a gala dinner in a local hotel, where the central bank governor, the visiting non-executive director of Standard Chartered PLC and Osman Morad, chief executive officer of the Standard Chartered Bank Bangladesh, were present.
Speaking at the function, Dr Salehuddin Ahmed said the foreign bank's new well-designed country office would help its customers to get services in a comfortable environment.
"Along with helping country's economy, the bank also helps develop the local manpower in banking sector," he said.
Lord Adair Turner said Bangladesh has been facing some challenges in the global economy. "But if we consider the dynamism of the country's people, I can say it would not be tough for Bangladesh to overcome the problem that remains in its economy," he said.
Osman Morad said with a presence of over 100 years in Bangladesh, Standard Chartered Bank, Bangladesh has continuously thrived to provide world class banking services to their clients here while maintaining exemplary standards of compliances.
The new country office has 110,000 square feet of space across the seven floors that accommodated nearly 700 staff. The bank also introduced its largest branch at the new office with 16 counters, separate suits for priority credit cards and multiple ATM machines.
The bank's profit before tax stood at Tk500crore last year. At present, Standard Chartered Bank Bangladesh operates 25 branches in different parts of the country.
