Police SI stabbed while trying to stop Jubo League feud
A police sub-inspector was stabbed during a clash between two factions of Jubo Lague Khagrachhari district unit over control of north Shalbagun area under Sadar upazila early yesterday.
The two factions--one led by District Jubo League Convener Partha Pratim Tripura and the other by Joint Convener Rafiqul Alam--attacked each other at around 12:30am, leaving three activists from both sides injured.
On information, a police team, led by Sub-Inspector Mohammad Akhtaruzzaman, went to the spot to bring the situation under control. Sources said when the law enforcers started dispersing the clashing groups, some Jubo League men belonging to Pratha group swooped on SI Akhtaruzzaman and stabbed in his face and right hand.
He was first admitted to Khagrachhari Adhunik Sadar Hospital and then shifted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital. The injured Jubo League activists-- Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, Mohammad Khairul Alam and Zillur Rahman--were given first aid at the sadar hospital.
Immediately after the incident, police filed a case with Sadar Police Station against Pratha and 17 others of his faction.
The other accused are Anwar Hossain, Shahar Ali, Mohammad Munna, Matiur Rahman, Jamal Hossain, Rashed, Bahar, Titu, Rubel, Nurul Huda, Rashid Uddin, Habib, Abdul Hye, Al Amin, Abul Kashem, Rashedul Alam and Fahim. Of them, Police arrested Anwar Shahar Ali and Munna yesterday noon.
