Technical schools to be set up at each UZ: Nahid
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid yesterday said the government would set up one technical school in every upazila across the country in order to build skilled manpower, says a press release.
Apart from technical education from class VI to X in the proposed schools, six-month-long short courses would also be introduced, he added.
The minister said the government has taken the project to build skilled manpower in the country so that they can work at home and abroad.
Nahid said this while speaking as the chief guest at a workshop at Bianibazar upazila complex auditorium in Sylhet.
The workshop was organised to discuss various aspects of the project including whether adequate number of students would be managed in the upazilas, what could be the technical trades, feasibility of short courses and job prospect of the students on completion of the course.
The minister said the government would also set up one polytechnic institute in every district and technical trade would also be introduced in the institutes.
He further said that the students of these institutes would study such curriculum designed to meet future demand.
It is told in the workshop that, a total of 120 students in two sections from class VI to X will be admitted into these technical schools and a technical subject along with general curriculum will be introduced excluding agriculture or home economics in every class.
These technical schools will be four-storied and will have four trade workshops, a common computer lab of 30 computers, one library and physics and chemistry lab.
The cost of the project is estimated at Tk 550 crore.
Chairman of Technical Education Board Prof Abul Kashem, Director General of Technical Education Directorate Prof Nitai Chandra Sutradhar, Chief Planning Officer of the Education Ministry Nurul Huq and Chairman of Sylhet Education Board Prof SM Abdul Khaleque also spoke.
