Tigers start well in 2nd innings
Bangladesh made bright start in their second innings with a first innings deficit of 53 on the final day of the three-day warm-up match against West Indies A at the Kensington Oval yesterday.
The Tigers were on 37 without loss off eight overs when the last report came in and the not out batsmen were Tamim Iqbal on 28 and Imrul Kayes on 5.
Earlier, the second string West Indies side lost their last two wickets in the morning by adding only one run to their overnight score of 247-8 in reply to the Bangladesh first innings total of 195 all out from 63.5 overs.
The batsmen dismissed in the third day morning were the overnight pair of wicketkeeper-batsman Devon Thomas, who smashed a hundred in the second day to ensure a first innings lead of the home team, and Kevin McClean.
McClean, who bats left-handed and bowls right-arm, was first out, bowled by pacer Shahadat Hossain without adding to his overnight score of 21 in the day's second ball.
Three balls later, Thomas, a 19-year-old Antiguan, was caught by wicket-keeper Mushfiqur Rahim off the same bowler for 105, which was also his overnight score and maiden first-class century.
Shahadat Hossain took three for 54 from 11.5 overs and left-arm spinner Shakib Al Hasan, three for 72 off 28 overs. Mahmudullah Riyad and Mashrafe Bin Mortaza took two wickets each.
On the second day teenage batsman Thomas snatched away Bangladesh's early initiative with his maiden first-class hundred as West Indies A finished the rain-hit day on top on Saturday.
Ridding on his ton the home team fought back brilliantly after being reduced to 147 for 6, to end the day 52 ahead when rain stopped play.
Resuming the day on 82 for four, the second string West Indies side reached 247 for eight off 82 overs in reply to Bangladesh's first innings total of 195 all out from 63.5 overs at the close of play.
Thomas, who resumed from his overnight score zero, bought up his century in 241 minutes off 184 balls with nine fours and two sixes. He has so far batted for 256 minutes, faced 194 balls and struck nine fours and two sixes.
The young batsman got good support from his captain Sewnarine Chattergoon, who fell for 50 when he was adjudged lbw playing across the line against spinner Mahmudullah Riyad.
Bangladesh will play West Indies on Thursday in the first Test, and will look to utilise the final day of the tour match to gain some form.
