RTI Act comes into effect today
The government is set to form a three-member Information Commission today as the Right to Information (RTI) Act comes into force on the day.
A selection body headed by a Supreme Court judge has finalised a six-member panel and sent their names to the President's Office for formation of the commission.
Of the panel, one will be appointed as chief information commissioner and two others, including a female member, will be made information commissioners.
The Right to Information Ordinance 2008 was promulgated by the immediate past caretaker government, which was later passed in the parliament by the new government on March 29.
On April 5, the President signed it and a gazette notification was published in this regard on April 6.
