Ousted leaders in Feni stage pro-Eskander procession
Feni BNP's expelled leaders and their men on Monday brought out a procession in the town to garner support in favour of newly selected convenor and Khaleda Zia's younger brother Sayeed Eskander.
The procession followed a doa mahfil at the community centre.
Leaders and workers supporting former president of district BNP Mosharraf Hossain MP and general secretary Prof Joynal Abedin MP did not participate in the programme.
Prior to the milad mahfil a press conference was organised at the community centre on behalf of the newly formed convening committee.
Four members including Sayeed Eskander of the nine-member convening committee were absent at the press conference.
Women MP Rehena Akhter Ranu gave the address of welcome. Joint convenor Zia Uddin Mister read out a written statement. Advocate Mesbah Uddin replied to different questions from the journalists. The press conference was told that Sayeed Eskander is now in Singapore for treatment.
In the written statement, the leaders and workers of the party were urged to unite rising above all personal and group interests.
Witnesses said the expelled leaders brought their supporters from their own constituencies in buses to the meeting venue to join the doa mahfil and procession.
The doa mahfil was held to seek early recovery of Major (retd) Sayeed Eskander, Tarique Rahman and Arafat Rahman. After the milad about 500 to 600 leaders and workers in a procession paraded different roads of the town.
