3 hurt as court bldg collapses
Three people, including a lawyer, were seriously injured when a portion of the roof of the old District Judge Court Building collapsed on them yesterday noon. Sources said the roof collapsed when trial procedure of the courts of Shyamnagar and Kaliganj Assistant Judges were going on inside the building at around 11 am. Injured District Ainjibi Samity member Dilip Kumar Dev and one Monira Khatun and her daughter Sharmin Sultana were rushed to a local hospital. Later, the District Ainjibi Samity, in an emergency meeting yesterday urged the authorities to solve the matter within seven days. In case of failure they threatened to go for indefinite court boycott. Locals said the building was declared abandoned in 1986.
Indian team in Sylhet

A five-member team from the Indian states of Manipur and Assam came to Sylhet yesterday to express solidarity with the local activities against Tipaimukh Dam here and jointly raise awareness about river related rights. The team included environmental activist Dr RK Ranjan Singh, Ramananda, Josef Hamar, Bikramjit and Arnab Dutta. Angikar Bangladesh chief Muhammad Hilal Uddin welcomed them. They visited Sunamganj district headquarters yesterday and joined a rally there. A 'Sanghati Bandhan' expressing solidarity is expected to be staged at Shahjalal University in Sylhet this afternoon.
Rivals kill outlaw

An outlaw was murdered on Saturday night by party rivals at village Goneshpur under Ataikula police station. Bokul,30, was a cadre of outlawed PBCP red flag faction. Police and locals said Bokul came under attack when he was gossiping at Goneshpur Bazar at about 8.30 pm. Rivals chopped him to death on the spot. Police rushed to the place and recovered the body. A case was filed with Ataikula police station.
Beanibazar College clash

Beanibazar Government College authorities yesterday suspended classes for three days following Saturday's clash between Chhatra League and Chhatra Shibir men on the campus. At least 15 people were injured when the rival student groups clashed over making the freshers members of their student fronts. One critically injured Chhatra League activist was sent to Dhaka for treatment. Bangladesh Chhatra League yesterday filed a case against about 50 Islami Chhatra Shibir activists. Chhatra Shibir also filed a similar complaint with the same police station.
