MP's son found dead at home

The son of Awami League lawmaker Tipu Munshi was found dead at their residence in the city's Uttara early yesterday.
Police found Apu Munshi, 25, with two bullet wounds in his chest and rushed him to United Hospital at Gulshan at about 3:00am where the doctors declared him dead.
Quoting family members police said Apu, who was doing his graduation on management in Canada, shot himself with the licensed pistol of his father. The police had to break open of his room at 2:30am.
Apu entered his room around midnight and after some time gunshots were heard, police said quoting family members.
They then informed police and Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) about the incident.
Investigation officer (IO) Mohammad Imran Khan, sub-inspector of Uttara Police Station, said, "We could not interrogate the deceased's parents as Tipu Munshi and his wife fell sick following the incident."
Tipu Munshi filed an unnatural death case with the police station yesterday, the IO said, adding that police reached the spot on information and found the room locked from inside.
He said family members of the deceased showed police several prescriptions by Apu's physicians. The prescriptions suggest that Apu had long been suffering from mental disorder and taking treatment since, the IO said.
Babu Talukder, uncle of the deceased, said Apu came to Bangladesh from Canada three months ago and was taken to India for treatment. Apu returned to the country on June 6 but his mental problem persisted, said Babu.
Morgue sources said the body was taken by the family members of Apu from Dhaka Medical College morgue after completion of an autopsy.
Two bullets, shot within an inch in his chest, reached his back, morgue sources said.
Wishing anonymity a doctor of forensic medicine said it is unusual to shoot two bullets an inch apart in the chest during any suicidal attempt.
Tipu Munshi, former BGMEA president and owner of Sepal group, was elected MP from Rangpur-4 constituency (Pirgachha-Kawnia).
